Patient Sitter Job Description

A patient sitter is someone who works at a health care facility or nursing home to care for patients.

These individuals provide care for the patients by helping them eat, using the toilet, taking medicines, and assisting in bathing and getting dressed.

Some patient sitters clean the rooms, run errands, and answer patients’ questions.

While patient sitters are technically not licensed as nurses or doctors, they work under the supervision of licensed nurses or doctors.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a Patient Sitter to provide companionship and support to patients in hospitals, nursing homes, and other care facilities. The Patient Sitter will interact with patients to provide them with emotional support and assistance with their activities of daily living. The Patient Sitter will also provide support to the patients’ families.

Patient Sitter Duties:

  • Perform patient responsibilities including feeding, bathing, and general hygiene
  • Provide companionship
  • Assist patients to or from bed, chairs, wheelchairs, or other locations
  • Assist with daily activities as desired by patients
  • Demonstrate skills necessary to effectively communicate with staff, patients, families, and visitors
  • Responsible for ensuring patient confidentiality
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Patient Sitter Responsibilities:

  • Patient and polite; friendly and engaging
  • Good communication skills; is able to interact with all demographics
  • Ability to multi-task

Requirements And Skills:

  • Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Set-up environment for children to play, including toys and books
  • Provide children with three meals a day, drink, and snack
  • Clean and nourish children as needed
  • Comply with facility safety and security policies, procedures, and practices
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Conduct personal interviews to recruit, screen, and hire staff
  • Train staff on various subjects, including specific job duties, policies, procedures, and expected behaviors
  • Maintain a safe environment for children and staff
  • Assist with facility maintenance
  • Maintain records
  • Perform other duties as assigned
