Plastic Surgeon Job Description

A plastic surgeon is a type of physician who specializes in surgical operations related to skin, soft tissue, and underlying structures of the body.

These specialized surgeons perform a number of procedures, including cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, using both surgical and non-surgical techniques.

A plastic surgeon’s training includes at least four years of residency in a surgical department and one year in a plastic surgery training program.

In addition, plastic surgeons undergo training specific to plastic surgery, which may include microsurgery, reconstructive surgery, and cosmetic surgery.

Plastic Surgeon Duties:

• Perform different types of surgeries
• Operate on patients using both open surgery and minimally invasive techniques
• Perform inpatient and outpatient surgeries
• Train and educate residents and medical students
• Keep medical charts up to date
• Oversee and administer operations within the facility
• Maintain current knowledge of new techniques and medications
• Perform other duties as assigned

Plastic Surgeon Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement plastic surgery marketing strategies, including advertising, social media, and website
• Coordinate medical events, including safety seminars, free screenings, and community outreach
• Conduct research and report on the latest surgical techniques
• Meet with patients to assess their needs and discuss their plastic surgery goals and expectations
• Build and maintain positive relationships with referring physicians
• Create and maintain strong referral sources
• Develop positive relationships with patients’ families
• Provide consultation and recommendations for plastic surgery procedures and follow-up care

Requirements And Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in medicine or dentistry
• 3+ years’ relevant experience in plastic surgery
• Knowledge of plastic surgery procedures, and ability to perform them
• Knowledge of plastic surgery technology and techniques
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues
• Strong written and verbal communications skills
