A produce clerk works with fruits and vegetables, and sometimes other grocery items.

They usually work in a grocery store, but sometimes they also work at a farmer’s market.

Produce clerks are responsible for stocking shelves, restocking displays, making special orders, and helping customers find items.

They are also responsible for collecting and calculating inventory, maintaining and stocking supplies, and checking expiration dates on product.

Produce clerks have to use good judgment when handling food that is often perishable, such as milk, meat, and fish.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a Produce Clerk to work in our grocery store. The Produce Clerk is responsible for stocking and selling fresh fruits and vegetables. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and have a strong customer service orientation.

Produce Clerk Duties:

  • Fully prepare orders for processing and shipment
  • Complete order s/h paperwork
  • Maintain inventory
  • Manage the warehouse

  • Maintain records of inventory
  • Maintain customer records
  • Maintain accurate invoices
  • Maintain accurate stock records

Produce Clerk Responsibilities:

  • Prepare product for shipment; check quotes, assign work, and issue purchase orders
  • Prepare invoices, statements of account, and purchase orders
  • Load and unload trucks, and pack and unpack boxes
  • Cross-train for other departments or operations
  • Assist other associates as needed
  • Create and maintain accurate records of product origin, including date, supplier, and lot numbers

  • Ability to work well under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to handle cash, check and credit card transactions
