A service technician is a person who installs, maintains, or repairs machines or equipment.

The job of a service technician frequently requires a great deal of travel, as equipment can only be properly maintained if it is in working order.

Service Technician Duties:

  • Work as a member of a team to provide field service support to end-users
  • Maintain and troubleshoot specialized equipment
  • Work with external vendors and customers
  • Routinely maintain detailed records of field service activities
  • Utilizes new equipment, technology, and systems as they become available
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives

Service Technician Responsibilities:

  • Install, diagnose, repair, calibrate, and/or maintain electronic equipment, instruments, appliances, systems, and related equipment in commercial and industrial environments
  • Perform preventive maintenance on appliances, systems, equipment, and facilities
  • Upgrade, recondition, and install a wide variety of electrical, electronic, and optical components
  • Troubleshoot electrical, electronic, and optical systems
  • Provide on-site technical support, maintenance, after-hours service, and training in commercial and industrial environments
  • Provide equipment consulting

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in auto body repair, mechanical, or automotive repair
  • 3+ years’ proven experience in an automotive repair position
  • Knowledge of vehicle components and systems
  • Excellent customer service skills, and ability to problem-solve
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
