A shipping clerk is a person who inspects a ship or ship’s cargo to ensure compliance with American Safety & Shipping standards before a ship is allowed to load cargo.

A shipping clerk also receives cargo before loading and supervises the loading of the cargo.

In addition, a shipping clerk is responsible for keeping accurate records of cargo.

A shipping clerk may work in the Port of Entry, a warehouse, or a shipping company.

The job of a shipping clerk includes such things as inspecting ships, tallying the tonnage of the cargo, preparing bills of lading, and supervising the loading of cargo

Job Brief:

We’re looking for Shipping Clerk to join our team and help us keep our warehouse organized and running smoothly. As a Shipping Clerk, you will be responsible for packing orders and getting them ready for shipping, as well as keeping track of inventory and keeping the warehouse clean and organized. If you’re detail-oriented and have experience in shipping and warehouse work, we want you on our team!

Shipping Clerk Duties:

  • Assist in shipping and receiving warehouse by receiving incoming trailers, packages, and materials, and assisting with shipping of outgoing trailers, packages, and materials
  • Ensure proper handling of all shipments
  • Process all returned goods by filling out RMA forms and packing shipping containers
  • Assist with preparing internal shipping documents
  • Do inventory for all inbound and outbound shipments
  • Maintain records of all shipping
  • Assist with other warehouse duties as needed
  • Assist with customer service as needed

Shipping Clerk Responsibilities:

  • Handle incoming and outgoing shipments, including packaging, labeling, inventory tracking, and auditing
  • Process shipping documents and payments, and correspond with carriers
  • Maintain and update shipment records, including billing, invoicing, and packing slips
  • Work with outside vendors to ship orders to warehouses, distribution centers, and clients
  • Accountability for ensuring quality control, safety, and environmental standards are met
  • Work closely with warehouse team to ensure on-time delivery of orders

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or comparable work experience
  • 2+ years’ experience in logistics field
  • Proficient computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with USPS (USPS 200)
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience in shipping or related field
