Stagehand Job Description

A stagehand is a crew member employed at a theater, a symphony, or opera, who assists the performers on stage.

Stagehands generally perform the following duties: Load and unload set trucks or trailers, stage properties, costumes, and equipment.

Assist the lighting director in lighting sets and properties.

Move scenery as called for during a performance.

Assist the conductor in running the orchestra.

Assist the ushers in performing crowd control.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for Stagehand to help set up and break down for events. This position requires heavy lifting and being on your feet for long periods of time.

Stagehand Duties:

  • Perform all duties necessary on a construction site including setup, tear down, loading, and off-loading of materials
  • Promote a safe working environment on work sites
  • Handle all tools and equipment with a properly trained attitude
  • Track time worked in hours/days/weeks/months by recording hours worked, time reporting, and vacation/holiday usage
  • Follow all safety rules, safety regulations, and OSHA regulations
  • Assist with personnel and office administration duties

Stagehand Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of theater construction and rigging
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to deal with the public, guests, and employees in a highly stressful environment

Requirements And Skills:

  • Assist in setup, teardown, and loading of venues for events, conferences, and conventions; set up stage, lighting, sound, and special effects systems
  • Clean and maintain staging areas and /or staging equipment
  • Coordinate with event production and management staff to ensure that all staging, equipment, and facilities are set up properly
  • Provide direction to front of house staff, including directing them to set up and break down all staging and staging equipment
  • Manually lift and move all staging, rigging, lighting, and special effects carts
  • Perform other duties as assigned
