A stonemason is a person who works in stone.

Stonemason Duties:

  • Build or remodel structures such as walls, buildings, sidewalks, and roads
  • Use hand and power tools to create stone structures
  • Incorporate stone elements into designs
  • Pave roads, sidewalks, and driveways
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate documentation, such as blueprints, sketches, drawings, and model
  • Maintains proper tools and equipment
  • Build or rehabilitate stones by blasting, quarrying, sawing, punching, and chiseling
  • Benchmark existing stone structures
  • Measure, cut, and fit stones
  • Measure and mark stone thickness
  • Dig trenches for placement of stone structures
  • Dredging, excavating, and excavating
  • Carry out other duties as needed

Stonemason Responsibilities:

  • Verifies all work conforms to specifications and standards
  • Oversees daily cutting and drilling operations, and ensures personal productivity goals are achieved
  • Trains other stonemasons and apprentices
  • Keeps work area clean and organized
  • Prepares reports on stone inventory, cutting and drilling operations, and inventories for management

Requirements And Skills:

  • 2+ years of experience in masonry
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and instructions
  • Knowledge of building methods and materials
  • Ability to perform field measurement and cutting
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and instruction
  • Ability to work in a time-sensitive, detail-oriented environment
