Strategic Accounts Manager Job Description

A strategic account manager (SAM) is a member of a company’s sales department who regularly works with customers whose businesses are considered strategic by the company.

A SAM works very closely with the upper management.

He or she is responsible for all aspects of a customers’ relationship, from customer acquisition to close.

The SAM also monitors the financial performance of those accounts that are strategic to the company.

When it comes to managing customer accounts, SAMs must have an in-depth understanding of individual customers’ industries, in addition to the products they sell.

SAMs are responsible for managing these accounts in a coordinated and strategic way, as well as understanding the company’s competition.

We're looking for a Strategic Accounts Manager who can help us identify and pursue new opportunities with our existing and potential clients. The ideal candidate will have experience in sales and account management, and be able to think strategically about how to grow our business. Strategic Accounts Manager Duties:

  • Develop and maintain strong business relationships with key decision makers
  • Develop and nurture current and prospective contacts
  • Foster strong, mutually beneficial relationships with key customers
  • Provide delivered solutions to improve business outcomes
  • Promote the use of products and services based on customers’ value
  • Provide feedback on product/service performance
  • Understand and meet customer strategic objectives
  • Identify, research, and prospect new accounts
  • Develop and cultivate key account business relationships
  • Provide ongoing reporting
  • Support sales efforts as needed

Strategic Accounts Manager Responsibilities:

  • Manage existing strategic accounts, including the development of budgets and projects, managing the sales process, and coordinating with internal departments
  • Ensure contracts are completed on time and within budget; analyze current processes and develop improvements to meet customer needs and increase profitability
  • Develop and implement account plans to increase the client base, grow recurring revenue, and maximize cash flows
  • Develop and implement marketing and branding strategies to increase client base
  • Assist in developing and implementing new processes and systems for strategic accounts
  • Managed professionals to develop strategies for new client acquisition
  • Develop and manage relationships with clients and strategic partners

Requirements And Skills:

  • 3+ years of strategic account management experience in HVAC and/or plumbing
