Substitute Teacher Job Description

A substitute teacher is a teacher employed by a school to fill in as a substitute when a teacher is absent.

Substitute teachers are typically not paid by the school, but are paid by the individual school districts, which typically pay a substitute teacher $35 to $70 per lesson.

Substitute teachers are typically not required to complete any formal certification or training, although many schools do offer substitute teacher training programs.

The amount of time a substitute teacher works varies depending on the school and the teacher's availability.

Substitute teachers are often required to hold a high school diploma or GED.
