Surgical Technologist Job Description

A surgical technologist (ST or SA) is a medical professional who, under the supervision of a surgeon, performs surgical duties.

Most surgical technologists are registered nurses (RNs) who have graduated from an accredited surgical technology program.

Surgical technologists assist the surgeon during surgery, prepare and sterilize surgical instruments, and assist in the recovery room.

Surgical technologists also educate patients and educate surgeons about the use of surgical instruments.

They prepare operating rooms, bring patients to operating rooms, transport patients from operating rooms, and manage anesthesia.
