Technical Sales Engineer Job Description

A technical sales engineer (TSE) is a sales professional whose job is to understand the technical aspect of the product they sell.

The TSE works with engineers, customers, and partners to help determine customer needs, recommend solutions, and educate customers on the product’s capabilities.

The TSE typically serves as a liaison between the customer’s engineering group and the sales team.

They act as the technical expert, and must be able to explain technical concepts in a way that the customer can understand.

They are responsible for solving customer problems, and educating customers who may not have a technical background on the product.

Job Brief:

We're looking for a Technical Sales Engineer to work with our team to develop and implement sales strategies that will help us grow our business. You will be responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities, as well as managing and expanding existing accounts. You will also be responsible for providing technical support to our sales team and customers.

Technical Sales Engineer Duties:

  • Coordinate all contacts with customers, provide technical clarifications, provide sales support, and ensure customer satisfaction
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend new or improved systems, products, or services
  • Present technical findings to management or other employees
  • Analyze sales, inventory, and financial information
  • Set-up and maintain various software programs
  • Work closely with customers to resolve issues
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with customers

Technical Sales Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with their accounts, and build relationships with key decision-makers
  • Develop technical sales presentations to educate accounts on solutions, and deliver technical training sessions
  • Develop technical proposals while providing value-for-money options, and presenting estimated costs and associated benefits prior to contract execution
  • Develop and maintain customer contact and follow-up records
  • Develop actionable, customized solutions to meet customer’s business goals
  • Lead sales efforts toward meeting or exceeding company targets
