Technical Writer Job Description

Technical writers are responsible for writing and maintaining documentation and other content used to create, support, and maintain software products.

The documentation created and maintained by technical writers includes user manuals and training materials, as well as any other content that helps users take advantage of a particular product, such as online help pages and error messages.

Technical writers are either generalists or specialists, depending on their areas of focus.

Generalist technical writers tend to write user manuals, online help pages, and technical articles.

Specialists tend to focus on a particular software category, such as databases or graphics software, and write content specifically related to that category.
