Trailer Mechanic Duties:

  • Perform maintenance on truck chassis, trailers and associated equipment
  • Diagnose and repair truck chassis and related equipment
  • Maintain and repair equipment
  • Proactively identify and report equipment failures
  • Maintain equipment inventory
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve efficiency
  • Maintain accurate, detailed records
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Assist with the transfer of trailers

Trailer Mechanic Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute repair strategies on trailers; test and diagnose problems, and complete work orders on OTR, flatbed, towable, and intermodal trailers
  • Communicate with drivers about repairs, updates, and improvements to help increase vehicle utilization and fuel economy, and handle customer complaints and negotiate resolutions
  • Complete routine repairs, replacing gaskets, seals, and fluids as necessary
  • Perform routine maintenance on the vehicles and trailers, including oil changes, tire and brake inspections, and fluid and chassis checks
  • Maintain inventory of parts and supplies, and ensure warranty and service records are properly filed
  • Conduct vehicle/trailer safety inspections, and inspect storage facilities

Requirements And Skills:

  • Proven experience as a certified or licensed mechanic with trailers
  • Ability to diagnose and repair trailer, hitching, and vehicle electrical problems
  • Ability to perform or coordinate routine maintenance on trailers, hitches, and vehicles
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
