The vascular sonographer, also known as a vascular technician or vascular technologist, assists physicians in diagnosing a variety of medical conditions.

Sonographers identify, diagnose, and monitor diseases and disorders by using sound waves to produce images and diagnostic information.

Sonographers also assist in clinical treatment for a variety of conditions.

Vascular Sonographer Duties:

Vascular Sonographer Responsibilities:

  • BS degree in vascular sonography
  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in vascular sonography
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology essential
  • Working knowledge of general sonography procedures and equipment required
  • Working knowledge of vascular ultrasound and Doppler a plus

Requirements And Skills:

  • Perform ultrasound examinations and interpret the findings, and report them to physicians in concise and professional reports
  • Maintain records and document all patient histories and examinations
  • Assist physicians with patient examinations
  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures, including vascular and pericardial sonography
  • Perform cardiac ultrasound, vascular ultrasound, and abdominal ultrasound
  • Perform endosonography, including vaginal ultrasound, and administer local anesthesia and sedation
  • Perform fetal ultrasound on pregnant women
  • Perform Doppler ultrasound to assess blood flow and tissue perfusion
  • Perform phlebotomy and laboratory tests
  • Perform ultrasound-guided and ultrasound-directed procedures
