The Vice President of Operations supervises the vice president for operations.

The vice president of operations oversees the budget, accounting, purchasing, human resources, administrative services, and information technology, among other areas.

The vice president of operations reports directly to the chief executive officer (CEO), and may be assisted by a vice president for operations and a vice president for human resources.

VP of Operations Duties:

  • Act as a representative of the company and provide leadership on all operational issues
  • Communicate the vision, mission, and strategic goals of the company to employees and vendors
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the company
  • Analyze and forecast manpower and financial needs
  • Ensure quality control and quality assurance practices are in place and monitored
  • Oversee implementation of operational processes
  • Oversee all employee activity including their recruitment, training, and evaluation
  • Establish and maintain productive and effective relationships with customers, vendors, and other companies
  • Develop and implement long-range strategic plans
  • Identify and report on trends, opportunities, and threats
  • Establish and maintain systems for measuring operational performance
  • Communicate the key operational issues to senior management

VP of Operations Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, assigning weekly performance goals and assuring their completion, while accomplishing your own goals
  • Recruit, onboard, and train high-performing employees to achieve sales, profitability, market share, and business plan objectives
  • Maintain project timelines to ensure tasks are accomplished on time
  • Develop, implement, and maintain budgetary and resource allocation plans
  • Delegate responsibilities to the best employees to perform them while enforcing all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines, training programs, and cultural values
  • Resolve internal staff conflicts efficiently and to the mutual benefit of those involved

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management, business administration, or related field
  • 5+ years experience in operations management or an accounting position
  • Knowledge of general business software and aptitude to learn new applications; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
