Associate Veterinarian Job Description

An associate veterinarian works with an established veterinarian at a veterinary hospital.

Associates usually receive more on-the-job training than interns but less training than senior veterinarians.

Associate veterinarians perform many of the same duties as senior veterinarians.

Associates only gain full autonomy over patients under full supervision from senior veterinarians.

In some cases, an associate may assist senior veterinarians in surgery but may not perform surgery on their own.

Associate Veterinarian Duties:

• Attend to client’s livestock and attend to their needs
• Assist with surgeries and other duties
• Conduct medical testing
• Attend to client’s emergencies

• Attend regular staff meetings and presentations

Requirements And Skills:

• Minimum of 2 years of general practice experience
• Good communication skills (written and oral)
• Knowledge of veterinary diagnostic imaging and surgical equipment
