The auto body technician is the auto mechanic that primarily deals with the restoration of an automobile after it has suffered significant damage.

Auto Body Technician Duties:

  • Perform pre-collision repairs, mechanical repairs, painting, and refinishing
  • Clean and sanitize all vehicles
  • Repair, replace, or adjust automotive parts, systems, or assemblies
  • Maintain records of all completed automotive repairs
  • Use computerized information system to diagnose and troubleshoot automotive problems
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, carry, and sit for prolonged periods of time

Auto Body Technician Responsibilities:

  • Inspect vehicles for damage, estimate repairs, and make repairs or replacements, using hand tools and power tools
  • Rebuild vehicles, using body panels, trim, and mechanical components, including body parts, bumpers, fenders, hoods, doors, and windshields
  • Cut, grind, and polish body surfaces and parts
  • Spray paint, using spray guns, brushes, and rollers
  • Remove parts and rebuild vehicles, using weld fittings, cement, and adhesives
  • Clean, replace, and install parts, using hand tools, power tools, and jacks
  • Perform other duties as described on work orders
  • Perform other duties as required
