Building Inspector Duties:

  • Use building inspection skills and tools to inspect facilities, buildings, utilities, and structures.
  • Prepare detailed reports for auditors, clients, and management.
  • Liaise with government agencies and clients to resolve complaints.
  • Provide guidance to subordinates on inspection procedures and requirements.
  • Investigate complaints received about billing, equipment, operations, and environment.
  • Maintain filing systems for reports, inspection documents, client correspondence, and client records.

Building Inspector Responsibilities:

  • Review construction documents and drawings for compliance with building codes, zoning regulations, and company standards.
  • Perform site inspections to ensure compliance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, finishes, and site improvements.
  • Track project changes during construction.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled building inspections.
  • Report building defects to contractors, designers, and owners.
  • Assist with preconstruction meetings with contractors.
  • Perform cost estimating.
  • Assist in budget development.
  • Conduct meetings with contractors.
  • Write final inspection reports.
  • Follow up on all open items.
  • Assist with bid evaluations.
  • Assist with post-construction inspections.
  • Assist with training of new inspectors.
  • Assist with scheduling of inspections.

Requirements And Skills:

  • 3+ years experience as a building inspector.
  • Knowledge of building code requirements and scheduling methods.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a constant eye on quality.
  • Knowledge of jobsite safety practices required.
