The marine engineer is a person who generally specializes in repairing vessels or ships.

This position requires the individual to possess a high level of mechanical skills, as well as an in-depth understanding of the ship’s systems.

Marine engineers also are often called upon to help the captains of the ship navigate the craft, and are sometimes called upon to do calculations to determine optimal routes during storms or difficult weather conditions.

This job is also required to repair and refurbish equipment, such as pumps, engines, and wiring, as well as keeping the ship’s engine room clean.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a Marine Engineer to work with us on a new project. The engineer will be responsible for the design and implementation of the project.

Marine Engineer Duties:

  • Provide operational and engineering support to Marine Vessels
  • Performs engineering analysis and documentation of vessel’s condition
  • Manage vessel machinery performance and efficiency
  • Provide engineering support to management in the repair, modification, and overhaul of vessels
  • Coordinates with external engineering consultants and vendors
  • Ensure proficiency in using and testing electronic equipment
  • Conduct inspections of vessels to confirm adherence to safety regulations
  • Provide engineering guidance in support of skilled mariners
  • Train and operate the vessel’s firefighting system
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Marine Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties related to repair and maintenance of vessels and shore facilities
  • Meet with shipyard representatives and marine mechanics to assess conditions and recommend repairs
  • Inspect vessels and shore equipment to detect, diagnose, and correct mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems
  • Maintain detailed records of work performed
  • Operate and maintain all vessels and equipment, including emergency generators
  • Provide oversight for maintenance and repair operations on company-owned vessels and shore facilities and perform other duties as needed

Requirements And Skills:

  • A valid USCG General License
  • 3+ years’ experience in marine engineering
  • Knowledge of vessel systems, rigging, and electrical equipment
  • Knowledge of marine oil pollution prevention requirements
  • Knowledge of marine safety requirements
  • Knowledge of marine vessel design and propulsion
