Occupational Therapy Technician Duties:

  • Assist occupational therapists with assessing, planning, implementing, and supervising therapeutic treatments
  • Implement therapeutic treatment
  • Assist occupational therapists by observing clients, reporting activities, and participating in treatment
  • Provide occupational therapy services independently
  • Develop a treatment plan for occupational therapy services
  • Verify client progress
  • Communicate with physicians and therapists regarding client’s progress and health
  • Attend continuing education classes
  • Attend to administrative duties
  • Supervise client care

Occupational Therapy Technician Responsibilities:

  • Assist OTs with treatment programs by observing activities, performing certain functions, and instructing patients in exercises
  • Prepare for therapy sessions by working with OTs to develop and carry out a treatment program, including setting up treatment environments
  • Develop and administer treatment programs appropriate to age and skill level
  • Perform various therapeutic and rehabilitative techniques, with focus on strengthening, stretching, positioning, and stabilization of joints
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living
  • Monitor patients’ progress via evaluation, assessment, and reassessment
  • Perform bedside procedures including dressing, skin care, feeding, and positioning
  • Educate patients, family members, and other caregivers about treatment goals and progress
  • Collaborate with OTs and CNAs to provide effective nursing care
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements And Skills:

  • Associate’s degree in occupational therapy
  • 2+ years’ proven experience as an occupational therapy technician
  • Proven knowledge of occupational therapy principles, techniques, and procedures
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and psychology
