Public Health Nurse Responsibilities:

  • Investigate, assess, and provide care to address specific health needs of patients
  • Provide health care education to patients, families, and caregivers
  • Investigate, evaluate, and develop treatment plans for acute and chronic illness
  • Lead and manage a team of registered nurses including scheduling, hiring, and training
  • Coordinate with hospitals and healthcare providers to optimize patient care
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with coworkers
  • Conduct various administrative tasks including reviewing medical records and entering data
  • Manage inventory and finances by validating receipts and expense reports; verifying invoices against purchase orders and material orders; and reviewing cost reports

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • 3+ years experience in public health nursing (certificate in public health nursing preferred)
  • Knowledge of public health nursing concepts and practices; knowledge of and ability to apply health laws and guidelines
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with a constant eye on quality
