What is Organizational Development (OD)?

OD professionals work in organizations, assisting the organization to reach its objectives, governed by a specified strategy, and work in concert with others, such as human resource professionals, to help the employees meet objectives.

OD methods vary widely by organization, industry, and position. For example, OD methods are only required or encouraged for executives and senior leadership teams, whereas managers may need only informal training.

All of these development methods aim to increase employee competence, motivation, engagement, effectiveness, and performance.

Organizational development is necessary in order to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of organizations. By identifying and addressing problems within an organization, OD can help to improve overall performance and make the organization more successful. Additionally, OD can also help organizations to better adapt to changing conditions and to anticipate and respond to future challenges.
