A commercial driver’s license is a license required by most states and in some provinces, territories, and countries to drive heavy commercial vehicles.

The license is usually called the Class A, B, or C license.

The Class A license is issued for trucks 26,001 pounds (11,860 kg) or more, and the Class B license is issued for trucks 10,001 pounds (4,536 kg) or more.

The Class C license is issued for vehicles 26,001 pounds (11,860 kg) or more that are required to have two or more axles and towing

Job Brief:

CDL Driver Duties:

  • Drive an open 39-foot box truck, tow a trailer, and transport materials
  • Load, unload, and move materials at construction sites
  • Use mechanical, electronic, and hydraulic systems to repair and service equipment
  • Clean equipment, work areas, and other company facilities
  • Attend training classes
  • Other duties as assigned

CDL Driver Responsibilities:

  • Drive truck, tractor, or trailer in safe and efficient manner, complying with all DOT regulations and company policies and procedures
  • Operate heavy vehicles in performance of assigned duties
  • Maintain vehicles in safe operating condition
  • Drive vehicles to and from various locations as required and scheduled
  • Maintain vehicles as defined in the maintenance plan/manual
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements And Skills:

  • 2+ years of experience driving trucks
  • Experience loading and unloading material trailers
  • Ability to perform physical labor
  • Ability to work 40 hours or more per week
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively
  • Ability to follow the work direction and procedures
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Previous construction or retail/warehouse experience preferred
  • Valid Class A CDL
  • Two+ years of recent experience driving a truck
  • Ability to read maps
  • Ability to understand road signs
  • Excellent customer service skills
