Electrician Apprentice Job Description

An electrician apprentice is a person who has completed an initial training program and is working towards becoming an electrician.

Electrician apprentices must complete at least 1 year of theoretical and practical training, and pass a state licensing examination.

Electricians are required to complete 10 hours of continuing education every year, and pass a re-certification examination every 10 years.

A competent electrician apprentice should be able to read electrical drawings, blueprints, and schematics; use hand and power tools; install temporary circuits, fixtures, and wiring; and safely operate electrical devices.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for an Electrician Apprentice who is motivated, detail-oriented, and has a strong interest in electrical work. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, and will have excellent problem-solving skills.

Electrician Apprentice Duties:

  • Gain practical experience while completing training to become an electrician
  • Continue education toward goal of becoming a journeyman electrician
  • Understand all safety practices when working on electric systems
  • Insure proper equipment and tools are used when working on electrical systems
  • Understand all industrial/commercial electrical codes
  • Install, maintain, and test electrical systems, components, and devices
  • Keep accurate job records
  • Work safely in an industrial/commercial environment
  • Pass all trade/licensing examinations

Electrician Apprentice Responsibilities:

  • Assist with electrical installation, maintenance, and repair, including, but not limited to: installing data, communication, and lighting systems; wiring and terminating electrical components; and troubleshooting electrical systems
  • Identify electrical problems in existing buildings and equipment and make recommendations for repairs
  • Deliver timely service to customers
  • Maintain records and documentation
  • Perform safety checks and perform safety inspections

Requirements And Skills:

  • A minimum of three years work experience as an Electrician, Maintenance Person, or Electrician Apprentice
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints
  • Ability to complete work while adhering to safety standards
  • Knowledge of electrical safety practices
  • Ability to handle large and heavy tools
  • Good computer experience
