A freight broker is a person who arranges for the shipment and delivery of the cargo of one or more customers.

We’re looking for a Freight Broker to help us move our product from point A to point B.

Freight Broker Duties

  • Identify, qualify, and negotiate freight contracts
  • Oversee all freight activities
  • Track shipments and ensure timely receipt and payment
  • Decide on shipping route, cost, and service
  • Conduct load surveys and inspect freight identifications
  • Investigate claims of damage, missing items, or poor service

Freight Broker Responsibilities

  • Negotiate transportation contracts with common carriers, shipping lines, and freight forwarders
  • Provide clients with accurate and timely information regarding freight movements
  • Manage the movement of goods by preparing bills of lading, inventory reports, shipment schedules, and other documents
  • Advise clients on freight charges, routing, and freight options
  • Develop and maintain relationships with freight forwarders, carriers, and suppliers
  • Produce reports detailing freight movement, service, and carrier performance
  • Work closely with accounting to manage workflow
  • Conduct sales calls, make sales presentations, and attend trade shows and conferences
  • Attend committee meetings, events, and in-company training courses
  • Make travel arrangements for sales personnel
  • Meet with clients and customers to discuss transportation needs and address any customer complaints
  • Review and approve sales proposals

Requirements And Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field
  • 2+ years freight brokerage experience
  • Knowledge of freight forwarding practices and regulations
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Great communication skills; professional, friendly, and reliable
  • Strong listening skills
