The hotel receptionist is typically the first person to greet new guests, and they are responsible for checking guests in and out of their rooms.

Hotels may also have a second staff person at the front desk.

While some front desk staff may be responsible for answering a guest’s telephone, this task may be delegated to a switchboard operator, who may not be hotel employees.
