PBX Operator Duties:

  • Answer incoming phone calls, direct calls, or transfer callers to appropriate personnel
  • Make outgoing telephone calls
  • Accept and record messages
  • Maintain and update directories
  • Cooperate with other departments
  • Inquire about changes in company policies
  • Assist other personnel with secretarial duties

PBX Operator Responsibilities:

  • Implement, maintain, and troubleshoot telephone systems including PBXs, multiple telephone lines, voicemail, and call processing systems
  • Pass customer calls to appropriate departments
  • Monitor and troubleshoot network issues including routers, switches, firewalls, and cabling
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot IP phones, modems, and other network devices
  • Support fax, email, and instant messaging services
  • Implement voice and data flows and multi-site connectivity
  • Plan and document voice, data, and wireless service installations
  • Protect customers and company from security threats

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in telecommunications or communications
  • 3+ years’ professional experience in telecommunications or communications
  • Knowledge of PBX systems and hardware
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair PBX systems
  • Ability to monitor and record calls
  • Knowledge of IP phone system technologies
