Physical Therapist Assistant Job Description

A physical therapist assistant, or PTA, is a licensed, graduate-level health professional who assists Physical Therapists (PTs) with patient assessments, treatment, and rehabilitation.

PTAs perform many of the same treatments as PTs, such as manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, instructing patients on home therapies, educating patients on self-care, and using assistive and/or adaptive equipment.

The PTA also performs assessments on patients and provides treatment under the direction of the PT.

The PT and PTA collaborate to help patients recover the highest possible level of function.
