A therapeutic support staff member (TSS) is any provider whose primary role is to provide direct support or oversight to an individual with a disability; however, TSSs also provide services related to the development of an individual’s independence, self-care, and daily living skills.

TSSs may work in several different settings, including community agencies, residential facilities, and group homes.

TSSs support individuals and their families in fulfilling individual goals related to independent living, socialization, community integration, and employment.

TSSs often provide direct support to an individual with a disability and provide oversight to staff who provide direct support.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for skilled and compassionate Therapeutic Support Staff to work with our clients in a variety of settings. You’ll need to be able to provide emotional and practical support, as well as helping with day-to-day tasks. If you have experience in a similar role, or are a qualified mental health professional, we’d love to hear from you.

Therapeutic Support Staff Duties:

  • Envision, implement, and direct the development and implementation of programs, services, and activities
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and compliance with all regulatory standards
  • Oversee the implementation of programs and services, including adherence to professional codes
  • Establish and monitor staff performance
  • Provide leadership and direction to staff members
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with staff members, families, peers, organizations, and the community
  • Identify and eliminate barriers to services
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Therapeutic Support Staff Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the scheduling and supervision of all therapy staff in accordance with administrative and patient care plans, as well as applicable federal, state, and local standards
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient treatment and care, and attend meetings with physicians and other healthcare professionals
  • Maintain and update patient records, including medical packets, progress notes, and discharge summaries
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times, including medical records and research
  • Communicate with physicians, nursing staff, other disciplines, and family members as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in social services
  • 3+ years’ proven experience in a therapeutic support position
  • Experience working with youth and/or adults with developmental disabilities
  • Knowledge of special education and behavior intervention techniques
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
