Biochemical Engineer Job Description

A biochemist specializes in the chemistry of life, including how living things—from bacteria to humans—use energy, grow, and respond to chemical and physical stimuli.

Research biochemists conduct experiments to gain new knowledge on, for example, the metabolism of cells or the structure and function of proteins.

They study how certain nutrients affect the human body, or how medications are broken down in the body.

Medical biochemists use their understanding of chemical biology to develop medicines and treatments for a variety of diseases and disorders.

Biochemical engineers focus on the application of biotechnology to the design and production of chemical products.

They design enzymes for use in industrial processes or for making plastics.
