The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC), also known as a Health Unit Administrator (HUA), is the medical staff responsible for the overall coordination and delivery of the care in a health unit.

In healthcare, a HUA oversees the delivery of patient care from the assessment of the patient to the discharge process.

The role of the HUA is to coordinate activities within the health unit, ensure the implementation of established policies and procedures, and ensure that health unit resources are used effectively.

The HUA also monitors the outcomes of the health and care delivered to patients and ensures that patients are treated in accordance with their established care plan.

Job Brief:

We’re looking for a Health Unit Coordinator to join our team. The Health Unit Coordinator will be responsible for providing support to the nursing staff and patients. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills.

Health Unit Coordinator Duties:

  • Assist with credentialing and credentialing and utilization review processes
  • Develop and manage budgets
  • Measure and report performance against approved objectives
  • Assist with verifying and maintaining quality systems and procedures
  • Coordinate between providers on patient issues
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Health Unit Coordinator Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, monitor, and manage all phases of the clinical program, including provider recruitment, onboarding, credentialing, HIPAA compliance, and regulatory compliance
  • Complete benefits enrollment, customer service requests, and payroll requests
  • Assist with benefits claims and billing
  • Build and maintain effective communication with clinical providers and internal stakeholders to ensure past, current, and future needs are addressed

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare field
  • 2+ years of hospital administration experience
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and hospital staff
  • Ability to multi-task while managing multiple, complex projects
  • Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
