Tennis Coach Duties:

  • Understand the goals and strategy of the sport and develop a concise outline of how to get there
  • Stay abreast of coaching techniques and history
  • Overall coaching philosophy
  • Examine the player’s aptitude for various tennis skills
  • Design a plan for improvement
  • Meet with players to assess their level of skill
  • Coordinate with parents on game strategy, scheduling, and discipline
  • Provide ongoing encouragement and motivation
  • Maintain a schedule to plan and track progress
  • Attend tournaments, league matches, and other events
  • Develop and maintain player statistics
  • Coordinate travel plans for team outings
  • Guide players in team and group activities

Tennis Coach Responsibilities:

  • Schedule, coordinate, and manage team practices, practices with outside teams, and lead players through practices, matches, and tournaments
  • Select, train, and instruct junior players, and create and implement junior development programs
  • Evaluate players’ strengths and weaknesses and make necessary adjustments, and oversee junior development programs, including scheduling training sessions and tournaments
  • Educate players on proper techniques, rules, and strategy, and develop individual player development plans to improve player performance
  • Evaluate player progress and performance, recommend coaching changes, and provide feedback to players and parent(s)
  • Supervise field operations, including organizing teams for matches, assuring player safety, and executing tournament logistics
  • Develop and implement short- and long-term goals, and monitor and update player development and progress
  • Maintain effective communications among players, coaches

Requirements And Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in tennis or physical education or related field
  • Strong knowledge of tennis and coaching techniques and strategies
  • Knowledge of training methods, and experience in constructing training curriculum
  • Ability to motivate players and encourage teamwork
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
